It bears the name of Jefferson City, the capital of Missouri, which was given its name in honor of the Founding Father Thomas Jefferson. Though construction began on September 21, 1987, the USS Jefferson City has just departed for its six-month mission.
The USS Jefferson City was originally put into service in February 1992, following five years of construction, and is currently stationed at the Naval Station in Pearl Harbor. Following its most recent technological upgrades and enhancements is this deployment. The motto of the 362 foot long structure is "When Any Exigence Calls."
